Numerology is the science of Number taught by the Greek philosopher, Pythagoras, who has been called the “father” of math. The Pythagoreans saw the qualitative value of Number as different from the view of number as merely a quantitative symbol of measurement. Pythagoras regarded number as a universal principle, an archetypal essence, possessing a distinct, living personality. He said, “All is number.”
We can understand this to mean that everything can be broken down into mathematics and understood through the archetypal meanings of number as a universal language. Others followed his lead:

How does Numerology Work?
All of existence is energetic and the movement or vibration of energy is both quantitative and qualitative. Number as a qualitative symbol is archetypal. Archetypes describe the quality of energy. For instance, the qualities of the numbers 1 and 2 are expressed in the archetypes of masculine and feminine, sun and moon, father and mother, respectively, which then extend to associated qualities like original and relational, penetrating and developing, etc. Your date of birth marks the time–the month, day and year–that you entered this physical plane of existence.
